PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

We’re Still a Happy Team at Hawthorn
Thank you to all members who took the time to complete the recent Member Satisfaction and Strategic Planning Survey. Your feedback is invaluable in helping the Board and committees plan for the club’s future direction. The results will inform the development of our new Strategic Plan, which is making steady progress, and there will be an opportunity for all members to comment and discuss the emerging directions in the near future.
As of 9 November, 22 members (58%) responded out of 38 — a statistically meaningful sample. While each section allowed for optional written comments, only three to ten respondents provided remarks in any given section. This indicates that more detailed or critical feedback comes from a relatively small group of members and may not reflect the views of the wider membership. Nonetheless, these opinions are worth considering despite their limited number.
Overall, satisfaction with Rotary Hawthorn's culture and meetings is strong. Members describe the club as friendly, inclusive, and enjoyable, with quality speakers, a welcoming venue, and a strong sense of fellowship.
Regarding service projects, most respondents felt they were worthwhile, well chosen, and diverse, reflecting Rotary’s strong community focus. Some members suggested there is scope for continued improvement through enhanced coordination, communication, and renewal of project ideas. The club’s modest budget was also recognised as a factor that encourages careful planning and prioritisation.
Members generally feel well informed, though some would like to see more visible follow-through on ideas raised. The membership experience continues to be viewed as enriching—offering personal growth, friendship, and meaningful contribution both locally and internationally. Engagement and costs were rated highly.
In the open reflections, members suggested more regular in-person meetings, broader participation in leadership roles, and ongoing commitment to international projects. A few felt the mission and vision statements could sound warmer and more inclusive, better reflecting the club’s welcoming spirit.
Remember, if you haven’t done so, put the 25 November Club Meeting at Kooyong in your calendar.
