Rotary Community Leaders

DG Ron Payne reminds us that  expressions of Interest are now invited for the position of Rotary Community Leader. Applications will close at midnight, Thursday, 28 March. 

 If more than one expression of Interest is received for a particular Rotary Community Group, an election will be held.

Please ensure you read the Candidate Information Sheet. You also need to review the notes from the Establishment Meeting from your Rotary Community Group. You can find the notes here.

If contemplating submitting an EoI, DG Ron also urges you to attend one of the online briefing sessions for prospective candidates listed below. You can register here.

 Ogdokontaheptaphobia

Trigger warning:  Jesters at Work!

No doubt inspired by the word Ogdokontaheptaphobia, one of our lady Jesters submitted the following:

Three rotten old Grandmas were sitting on a bench outside a nursing home when a Grandpa walked by. 

And one of the Grandmas yelled out, 'We bet we can tell exactly how old you are.'
The old man said, 'There is no way you can guess it, you old fools.'

One of the old Grandmas said, 'Sure we can! Just drop your pants and under shorts and we can tell your exact age..'

Embarrassed just a little, but anxious to prove they couldn't do it, he dropped his drawers.
The Grandmas asked him to first turn around a couple of times and to jump up and down several times.

Then they all piped up and said, 'You're 87 years old!'

Standing with his pants down around his ankles, the old gent asked, 'How in the world did you guess?'

Slapping their knees and grinning from ear to ear, the three old ladies happily yelled in unison - - 'We were at your birthday party yesterday!

Bookworms

The Bookworms shall meet by Zoom on Monday 26th at  6pm, to discuss “The Silkworm”,  wherein there are many meals, and nearly every important chat occurs in a restaurant, pub, or over tea and biscuits.

It was written by Robert Galbraith, author of the #1 international bestseller “The Cuckoo's Calling”. (She is better known as J. K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter books)

One reader has commented: “The plotting is intricate, the multiple plot strands so tightly woven together that it's a pleasure to look back at the end of the story and see how they all were coming together.”

Will The Bookworms agree?  We’ll see on Monday.

Changepreneurs

Dorothy Gilmour attended the Changepreneurs International Women’s Day event on Saturday. 
The presentations were made by two Members of Parliament and the Chair of the Federation of Ethnic Communities' Councils of Australia FECCA) and Rotary SAFE Families Inclusive Communities Initiative.
Dorothy was asked to provide an activity around coercive control and CALD communities. After her Quiz which was received with much noise and discussion, chocolates were handed out to everyone instead of just the winning table, as she told the group, Rotary focuses on Inclusion Diversity and Equity, so she was equitable and chocolate was given to everyone. 
Dorothy met the most articulate, inspirational young women and made connections and friendships which will increase the ability to reach out to many more diverse communities and work together. 
Thank you to the terrific Dr Abiola Akinbiyi, (with Dorothy, left) the creator of  Changepreneurs’. Rotary SAFE Families and Changepreneurs recently created a working relationship which is proving to very successful in our commitment to prevent family abuse and coercive control in our many diverse Australian communities.

Next Meeting

No lunchtime  meeting next week, but Dr Kate Robb,  the Founding Director and Head of Research at the Marine Mammal Foundation., will address us by Zoom. Dolphins, anyone?
