Back to Zoom for today’s meeting with 37 in attendance.

Katrina touched on the upcoming International Women’s Day, 9th March 2021, where we will be able to stream from the International Breakfast with guest speaker Jacinta Arden (New Zealand PM) and Jennifer Jones (Rotary International President Nominee).

We are asking for a member of our club to consider the position as Welfare Officer – to coordinate the collection and drop off members that may find it difficult to make our meeting. Please forward your details to Andrew Crockett.

Again, a big thanks to those who attended last week DIK working bee. A job well done, and the added benefit of Big W clothes being packed for Cambodia.

After today meeting, the board will meet briefly to evaluate the Upton House project. I will provide feedback next meeting.

Under the Rotary Youth program of Enrichment, we have donated $1080 to assist 4 students of Auburn Highschool to attend this worthy program.

Richard Logan extended his thanks to all those that assisted in the fundraising efforts for the Christmas Ham/cake sales. At this stage we are unsure of the profit, but gross sales exceeded $10 000. Special thanks to partners like Jellis Craig, that helped spread the message. Richard will be meeting next Tuesday re fundraising and asks members to please put any future fundraising ideas forward for consideration.

Andrew Crockett announced future dates to place into your diary:
  • 26/02/21 @ 5.40pm, Quiz evening (1 hour), registrations now open with a cost of $15/group.
  • 17/03/21 @ 6pm, Barefoot Bowl and BBQ at Auburn Bowling club, more details to follow.
  • Other Garden tour and film night will be considered later in the year when Covid conditions are lightened.

Our guest speaker today was Mr. Richard Whitaker, a former meteorologist. Richard took the time to prepare a slide show for his presentation. All members appeared engaged as Richard opened his talk with the science behind the indigenous weather knowledge. It was so interesting to see the influence the world has had on the tools used today to forecast what we now take for granted. This Global Observing System (GDS) is not only providing us with the comfort of knowing what the weather will be like over the next sven days but more importantly warnings for unpredicted weather in the past that was undetected.

Please join us at Kooyong next Tuesday, 23rd February 2021, where we will be inducting Mr. Vincent Chen. Our guest speaker will be Fleur Maidment of Nhill Rotary Club, and her topic "Safe Water for Every Child in Myanmar".
