They both had some wonderful photos and stories to share plus they dressed in local garments for the occasion.  This is a good example of how Rotary encourages members to explore other regions of the globe and see first hand some of the projects we support.

As part of the meeting Ian Bentley introduced Mary Wijaya, a Swinburne student studying marketing and communications.  Ian and Mark Eldredge recently had a meeting at Swinburne to discuss a joint project to update the Club’s online profile and website.  Mary was one of the students they met and expressed an interest in attending our meeting to start working on a Club promotional video. We look forward to the video and other work being proposed by the Swinburne students and will classify this as a Club Vocational project.

I am sorry to advise members that Dorothy was involved in a car accident over the weekend.  She spent two nights in the Alfred and is home now; luckily she did not suffer any broken bones but is very bruised and sore.  She did want me to mention how impressed she was that her Apple watch immediately sent a message to the emergency services and contacted her daughter to advise them of the accident.

Rotary Hawthorn and Rotary Glenferrie are working on a project to extend the MHU Care Packs project to St Vincent’s Mental Health Unit.  Glenferrie have agreed to support the project with both member support and financial support.  Katrina and Bronwyn Stephens are now working with St Vincent’s MHU staff to work out the details on how it will operate and when we can commence the project.

As announced last week the Lift the Lid lunch is scheduled for Friday 18th October and Craig Tiley, CEO of Tennis Australia, will be our guest speaker.  Over the next few months the organizing committee will be looking for sponsors, auction and raffle items.  If you can source auction/raffle items or recommend parties we should contact for sponsorship, if you could let Terry know that would be appreciated.

Footing tipping. What an amazing round of football with the biggest game of the round a draw.  All the members of our Club comp except poor Gordon had a fantastic result and the lead is now between Richard Logan, myself and Demons of Old.

Announcements:

The Salvo Hawks have their first home game for the season on Wednesday 3rd May at Rathmines Reserve, 95 Rathmines Road, Hawthorn East starting at 11 am.  This is a new venue for the season since Victoria Road reserve is not available.  The Club will again provide a pizza lunch for the players and David McNamara ‘Big Mac’ will be our Club coordinator for the season; if you would like to attend and help out, just let Big Mac know.

The annual Changeover Dinner is scheduled for Tuesday 4th June at Kooyong starting at 6:30 pm.  It will be a fun filled evening with a few surprises and I’m really looking forward to it for a number of reasons.  An email invitation was sent out earlier this week and details and booking information are included in this week’s Bulletin.

Next week’s meeting is Tuesday 7th May at Kooyong and the guest speaker is a Member Behind the Badge with Peter England and the MC will be Charlotte England.  I look forward to hearing Peter’s talk and Charlotte’s introduction could be very interesting as well.
