You are invited to participate in the Club’s inaugural Interest Group Meetings on Friday 4 December from 5.45 PM to 7.00 PM.

You can register using the following link.

https://www.trybooking.com/BMWAI

While there is no registration fee you are asked to consider a voluntary donation to support the Club’s December cause, the Boroondara Family Network.

When you register for the event, please nominate, in order of preference, three topics of interest from the following list nominated by respondents to the recent Member Events Survey.

Travel

Books and literature

Music

Current affairs

Sport

Art and painting

Living in a post-Covid world

Gardening

You will be allocated to your first preference group unless fewer than three registrants select that group, in which case you will be allocated to a group according to your next preferences.

How the event will be run

The event will start with a short introductory plenary before you are allocated to one of the interest groups you nominated.

Each group will be asked to appoint a convenor whose task will be to get discussion underway, time keep, and prepare a short report back to the concluding plenary session.

Groups will breakout into their separate Zoom rooms for about 40 minutes of discussion.

At the conclusion of the breakout period, convenors will be asked to report back to the plenary on their group’s decisions in regard to the following.

  1. Whether they want their interest group to continue, and at what intervals they would prefer to meet.
  2. Whether the group would prefer to arrange their own meetings via Zoom (or face-to-face when that becomes possible), or whether they would prefer to be part of a multi-group meeting like the inaugural meeting.
  3. Whether the group has selected a member to lead discussion at subsequent meetings, or whether this role will be rotated.
  4. How the group wants to organise discussion of its topic of interest. Here are some thought starters.
  • The Music group might decide to focus on a different musical genre at each meeting, and ask members with a particular interest in that genre to do a short presentation on a favourite musical item or event, as a prelude (excuse the pun) to discussion and sharing experiences of similar music and events.
  • The Books and literature group might decide to ask each member to do a short review of a book they have recently read that they can recommend to others.
  • The Travel group might focus at each meeting on a different country or location, with members who have travelled there sharing highlights of their trips.Alternatively, each member might be ask to do a short presentation (with photos if desired) about a particularly memorable travel experience.

While it won’t be possible to swap from one group to another during a meeting, members wishing to change groups for following meetings can do so by notifying the Zoom host for that meeting.
