PRESIDENT'S POST

The annual Christmas dinner at Studley Park Boathouse was a great success from the feedback Terry and I have received.  It was an excellent venue, and given the recent events at Kooyong, we may have dodged a bullet with that decision.

Many thanks to our auction item donors Noel and Simon for the Yarra Valley adventure, Simon and Gigi for the Christmas hamper and Dorothy for the stylish and unique set of cocktail glasses.  Simon was also our auctioneer for the evening and cajoled members and friends to dig deep for an excellent result.
As I said last night, from my perspective the Rotary Club of Hawthorn has done an amazing job over the past 12 months to support a cross-section of important projects, maintain a very strong social connection among it’s members and explains why after 70 Years it is still a strong, relevant and vibrant organisation.
We have one final Board meeting on Thursday evening with a well earned Club break until early February 2024!

DIK CHRISTMAS

DIK Xmas Lunch for the Volunteers.

Rotarians and Volunteers enjoyed a hearty Xmas Lunch ad DIK on Tuesday. PDG Bronwyn Stephens had organised a sumptuous meal, and refreshments appropriate for a hot December day, with table decorations for a happy year-end to our efforts.

David Dippie had made a slide presentation of the history of DIK, from its origins in the Rotary Club of West Footscray to the success of DIK Inc today. (David is unfortunately currently in hospital)

CHRISTMAS PROJECT - SUPPORT FOR CAMCARE UPDATE

Our 2023 Christmas project is providing support to the work of Camcare by providing food and grocery staples. There are so many individuals and families struggling to make ends and Camcare has advised that this year, donations have been reduced by more than a third reducing their normal robust stock of emergency relief supplies so much so that the contents of Christmas hampers will be food and grocery staples rather than Christmas treats and ‘luxury items’.

SENSORY GARDEN UPDATE

Box Hill hospital adolescent mental health ward (AIPU) : revamp  of sensory garden project

We were asked for support to improve and revamp their sensory garden which was installed by another (unknown) Rotary Club from the area many years ago. The garden was overgrown, the furniture in need of repair and the water feature/fountain had stopped flowing. The space was looking generally unloved. Club members Sheridan and Katrina visited the garden earlier this year and talked with the staff about their wishes and started to form a plan.

LILLE FRO UPDATE

Donor Update

Lille Fro Foundation

December 2023

Dear Sponsors,

Together we’ve achieved so much.

It was a huge privilege to return to India this summer to connect once again with our sponsor children and colleagues. My visit this year was extremely different in that I was accompanied by my 4 year old daughter Florence and niece Georgia.

While Florence may not be able to comprehend the vastness of her surrounds nor the enormity of the areas we travelled, what she will take away is a feeling of genuine warmth and love showered on her by our Lille Fro family, some of whom I have been truly honoured to have called friends for over 15 years.
