Our 2023 Christmas project is providing support to the work of Camcare by providing food and grocery staples. There are so many individuals and families struggling to make ends and Camcare has advised that this year, donations have been reduced by more than a third reducing their normal robust stock of emergency relief supplies so much so that the contents of Christmas hampers will be food and grocery staples rather than Christmas treats and ‘luxury items’.

Thanks to all our members of Rotary Hawthorn that  got behind the drive donating a total of 285 items (to the value of $1850) of  non-perishable food and other grocery items for donation to Camcare. The products will be assembled by volunteers into Christmas hampers for distribution to the most vulnerable in our local Boroondara community and also to add stock to their pantry of emergency relief supplies.

The staff at Camcare were so appreciative for our Club’s support and we were given a brief tour of Camcare’s premises and heard about their important work supporting the community. We were super impressed by the huge vegie garden which is managed by a group of local volunteers providing a weekly supply of fresh seasonal fruit and vegies for those in need every Thursday.
