Past President Katrina Flinn updates us on two great community projects, which she and her team of volunteers have been quietly nudging along.

Rochester flood victims-winter warmth project

Many people in Rochester are still displaced from their homes due to the floods and continue to live in caravans, tents and sheds. It is becoming increasingly cold now and the people who are living in caravans, tents and sheds need blankets, doonas and fan heaters (not Bar heaters).

Our Club has joined with our clubs in the District in providing the Rotary Club of Rochester with quilts and blankets for their local residents doing it tough.

Our Club purchased for this project two double bed wool quilts with sheet sets and doona covers as well as seven single bed wool doonas, doona covers and sheets (all put together as sets and delivered).

The Rotary Inner Melbourne Emergency Relief Network truck delivered all the donations collected on Tuesday 3rd May.

Care Bags for Mental Health Units

On  9th May 2023 we held a packing session for our project supplying care bags and clothing to the mental health units of The Alfred and Box Hill Hospitals. The focus today was packing care bags for The Alfred. We now have quite an experienced and enthusiastic group of packers and we were able to put together 200 care bags in just over 1½ hours.

As the old adage goes, many hands make light work.  Thanks everyone! .

Pictured are Vincent, Kevin, Doug, Noel Halford, Julie, Sue, Sheridan and Denbigh, and not in the photo, Dorothy (photographer).

The next couple of packing sessions will be undertaken by members of other clubs in our project consortium.
