Some happy events, but unfortunately this week we have some sad news.

Vale Bryan Griffiths

We are saddened to hear that Rotary Rochester President Bryan Griffiths passed away last week. Bryan's contribution to Rotary in his region is an example of how even a small number of people can make a positive difference to the lives of other members within their community. His club is still working to assist others following the flooding in Rochester. 

He once wrote: “Rotary does not only look for community leaders to become Rotarians, Rotary creates leaders from people like you and me becoming Rotarians.”

Our thoughts and sympathies are with Bryan's family and Rotary Rochester.

I append my favourite photo of Bryan, taken with Jan Twite of Glenferrie Rotary, when we were at the RI Convention in Sydney ten years ago.

We received a lovely message from Ashley Siedlecki, who was our Guest Speaker last week:

“Your club has a unique curiosity and inter-personal warmth that I found special. I really loved the Q and A time and being there with others connected to Timor. Thank you again for the opportunity, and I hope we can continue to walk in solidarity “

Auburn High School and the Camcare Winter Food Project 

Last week Kevin Rose and Pam Crockett visited  Auburn High School  to pick up a Camcare Emergency Winter Food collection, organised by the Year 12 leadership Team. A month-long project  involving the whole school with Rotary Hawthorn providing advice to the team and transportation.

Lessons in Disaster Training

PE Dorothy Gilmour informs us that Rotary Melbourne and GADAus are  providing Rotarians the opportunity to participate in Lessons in Disaster training. 

Gender and Disaster Australia or ‘GADAus’ is the leading national organisation offering evidence-based education, training and resources to address the harmful impacts of gendered expectations in disaster.

Do you have the ClubRunner App on your smart-phone?  

It gives you a directory of all club members, including a photo (just in case you forget what they look like)  However I noticed that some of you have not updated a photo against your name, and I took the liberty of loading one for you. Check it out, and if you prefer another photo, just update.  Easy!

One of the nice things about the App is that with one click you can add members details to your own phone directory. Then you won't have to bother the Club Secretary when you can't find Norm's phone number.

Welcome Back

Nice to see David Rush back with us: he and Sue have been all over the world (and many other places) while we were stuck in dreary Melbourne. 

At least Ian Macfarlane can look on the bright side: did you notice him today?  - NO SPECS!
