Have a Cappuccino on me . . .
Last week, The Jesters had this snippet: ‘White-faced capuchin monkeys greet each other by sticking their fingers up each others’ noses.’
Capuchin monkeys are readily identified as the "organ grinder" monkey, and have been used in many movies and television shows. The range of capuchin monkeys includes some tropical forests in Central America and South America as far south as northern Argentina.- Wikipedia
Do you recognise this young lad in Colombia with his pet capuchin monkey? The monkey was called Cantinflas, after the Mexican movie star (who you may recall as Passepartout in “Around the World in Eighty Days”).
The word "capuchin" derives from a group of friars named Order of Friars Minor Capuchin, an offshoot from the Franciscans, who wear brown robes with large hoods. When Portuguese explorers reached the Americas in the 15th century, they found small monkeys whose colouring resembled these friars, especially when in their robes with hoods down, and named them capuchins.
Not only but also: Cappuccino coffee gets its name from the Capuchin friars, referring to the colour of their habits.
Football Grand Final News
The team that scored the most points was declared the winner.
We will have more exciting Football News for you when the season re-starts in April 2024.
Responsible Driving
A car owner in Slovakia got into
trouble with police after his dog decided to switch seats in traffic, according to a Friday post.
“Senice police did not believe their own eyes on the police radar,” the agency continued, adding the brown hunting dog was sitting “obediently” behind the wheel of the vehicle.
Perhaps the dog knew it's master was above the legal limit, and was attempting to cover to help him beat the DUI rap. Man's best friend to the end.
Interplast
Our occasional visitor, Dr Leon Lewi (right), is running a wine-tasting on Sunday 15th October at 3.00 to 5.00 pm to raise money for Interplast. Established in 1983 with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, Interplast is supported by Rotarians in clubs and districts throughout Australia and New Zealand.
See our Ad under “Events” or ring Leon on 0419 354 313 to join in.
Hat Day
We saw some lovely hats today: “Lift Your Lid for Australian Rotary Health” was the catch-phrase of the day.
The Drury Clan looked a treat: see Henry, Jane and Amanda, flanking Anne Scott and Terry Kitchen.
However Guest Speaker Michael Valos astutely chose Gilbert Habla for Best Men’s Hat and Susie Anderson for Best Ladies. (below)
Raffle prizes went to Anne Scott, Andrew Crockett, Ian Bentley and Lawrence Reddaway: well done everybody.
