Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change — across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.Have the Fixers run their course?
The Fixers served a useful purpose during and immediately following Covid by providing an opportunity for Club members t
o engage, and extend their knowledge through researching the topics and listening to the views of other FIxers.
Co-ordinator Andrew Crockett noted that number attending meetings has declined, and the enthusiasm that marked participation when the discussion group started in February 2021 has waned.
A survey of members favoured winding up the Fixers. PP Andrew thanked those who had contributed to the discussion group.
The Bookworms
The Bookworms, on the other hand, are chewing their way through “Old Filth”, a novel by English author Jane Gardam. A tragicomedy, the story focuses on a retired judge struggling to come to terms with the death of his life. It was shortlisted for the 2005 Women's Prize for Fiction. The Bookworms plan discussing the book on 13th November, so any unoccupied Fixers have time to find a copy, read it, and join in.
Going against this Literary Tide, your Editor has included an article on Auduiobooks in this Bulletin. Just to see how The Bookworms react, of course.
But what about the missing Lingua File? There is a rumour that Andrew Crockett may again put digit to keyboard, and challenge us with more linguistics. Watch this space!
The Missing Meeting
Do you ever wonder what to do on the Tuesday when Hawthorn Rotary doesn’t meet? There’s lots to do. This circular arrived in my letterbox recently:
The Malvern Men's Probus Club was established in December 1983. It consists of retired men who have joined together with the purpose of providing regular opportunities to keep their minds active, expand their interests and enjoy the fellowship of new friends. We m
eet on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 10am, at the recently renovated Presbyterian Church Hall at 163 Wattletree Road, Malvern. The meetings comprise 25 minutes of club business, a five minute talk by a member, morning tea/coffee and a social break followed by a guest speaker (and questions) of about one hour. Members are then invited to lunch at a nearby tennis club. We aim to provide talks by a wide variety of interesting guest speakers, active outings, sporting occasions and tours. A range of other activities include a highly successful monthly finance/investment meeting where the current Australian and world finance trends are discussed.
They also meet every Friday 10 am - Noon for a Coffee’n’Chat at Giorgio’s Restaurant opposite the Town Hall.
Could we find some recruits there?
Football's Forgotten Years
How nice it is to have a great team of reporters here at “The Bulletin” . Henry Drury captured the spirit of today’s Zoom Meeting, and thanks to some insightful proof-reading by Jane, we have a nice report for you.
Well done, team!
