The Rotary Foundation
Although November is Rotary’s Rotary Foundation Month, Anne Scott invites us to support the Foundation in October:
Hawthorn Rotary can look back over the years with pride at the amount of support that has been given to the Rotary Foundation. We can also recognise the many times we have been recipients of grants from the Foundation for our projects.
Over the last few years when our meetings have changes from 4 to 2 lunches at Kooyong we have saved about $100 a month. Can I invite you to contribute the cost of the 2 non- lunches to the Foundation in October to be part of the EVERY ROTARIAN EVERY YEAR and be a leading club in this important fund raising support.
October is also the time to get fit and be part of the ‘’Walk with us in 2023’’ to end Polio. There is also a chance for your favourite four legged friend to participate as Paws for Polio Walk.

Lookout, Rotary!
Grey nomads Jane and Kevin Rose sent us a snapshot at the Rotary Lookout in Esperance: “The Nullarbor and 4,000 kilometres behind us and still with a very favourable MSI (see Noel for definition). Australia is vast, and little water, exacerbated with smelly consequences when the pump was not working at the Cocklebiddy roadhouse/caravan park. The blue sea pounding the rocks, the white sand and the whales are scenes to behold.”
RCH CHRISTMAS DINNER: CHANGE OF VENUE AND DATE
The Social Committee have decided to break from tradition and move our Christmas Dinner from Kooyong to the newly renovated Studley Park Boathouse. This iconic Melbourne venue, which many members will have visited at some stage, has just undergone a major upgrade and we have secured The Conservatory Restaurant for our dinner.
Please note the new date is Tuesday 12th December (not Thursday 14th as previously advised). We encourage members to invite family and friends who might be interested in visiting this revamped historic venue. Save the date in your diary and look out for booking details next month.
Drink Responsibly
ST. LOUIS, MO — Local consumers were caught in a familiar but confusing position this week after television advertisements from a popular beer manufacturer urged viewers to "drink responsibly" while simultaneously prompting them to purchase as much beer as possible.
"We want everyone to enjoy our beer, but not more than they legally should," said Anheuser-Busch marketing executive Tim Longobardo. "Everyone should buy cases and cases of beer, fill their homes with it, have it handy for all occasions, enjoy it at all times of the day, but please, whatever you do, drink responsibly."
At publishing time, beer enthusiast Clifford Martin was last seen downing his twelfth beer before lunch after making sure he chained himself to his front porch to avoid running out into oncoming traffic.
