It is hard to believe that it is four years since our last memorable visit to Nhill where we were hosted by the Rotary Club of Nhill and enjoyed meeting the Karen community who have made Nhill their home.
As a result of that visit the Rotary Club of Hawthorn International Service Committee was able to provide water purification Skyhydrant Units to support the 2 million Karen refugees who have been forced to seek safety from persecution by fleeing to safety just over the Myanmar border in Thailand.
The part Rotary has played is invaluable and through the efforts of the Rotary Club of Nhill, the settlement of the Karen community into their town is seen as an immigration success story.
We are pleased to report that with the support by the Rotary Club Hawthorn, Mu Yeh who was studying at the local high school, has now progressed to studying bio medicine at Latrobe.
We are excited to announce a further visit of Hawthorn Rotarians will take place on 25th November this year.
A total of fifteen rooms have been reserved under the Rotary Club of Hawthorn at the Zero Inn Motel in Nhill for that weekend, and it is suggested that you book one of these rooms early. (Tele 03 5391 1622) if you would like a fabulous weekend.
A special programme of entertainment and activities is being prepared.
