Welcome to the 1stday of Summer and though we are not landing in Brisbane airport, there is no better place than our weekly zoom meeting for The Rotary Club of Hawthorn. Today over 40 attended our meeting and it was lovely to see friends and family in attendance.
Reminder to all to all for the following RSVP:
- Registration for our annual Christmas party must be in by 10/12/2020, to all preparation for the evening celebrations on 16/12/2020,
- Ham orders must be in by 10/12/2020 for delivery and pick-up options,
- Christmas Cakes and Pudding order must be in by today 01/12/2020,
- Reminder to all to register to help with the packing and distributing of Christmas Packs for the period 11th/12thand 13thDecember 2020.
- Australia Day celebration will include celebrity guest and past RI President. Our grant will allow us to celebrate Australia day within our community and incorporate our 100-year celebration. A wonderful opportunity to showcase what we have achieved through volunteering in Rotary and aspire to create a strong and vibrant future for the next century action in Australia.
This week’s guest speaker was our very own Phil Dolan, whose presentation highlighted his academia and business background to our members. Today he compressed a 12-week course (he teachers as an Adjunct Professor at La Trobe University) into a 30-minute presentation, on how to cultivate creative thinking. Such an engaging presentation, where factual situation was used to highlight the cogs behind creative thinking and how questioning conventional wisdom should be embraced with a logical process.
Phillip ended his session by highlighting that you should be trying to provide your children/grandchildren with as many experiences, that they can draw from in the future. We just never know if we have our very own Steve Jobs, just under our nose!!
