President Tilak gives us a run-down on Tuesday's lunchtime meeting.
A meeting by Zoom, of course.
Rotary Club of Hawthorn’s zoom meeting today, on the 29thof September was well attended by our club members and few of their guests.
It was obvious some overgrown beards have been trimmed nicely, certainly improving our self-reliance during this time without our trusty hairdressers. Well done chaps! (See David Pisterman - left. A previous beard was much trimmer)
Today, our guest speaker was Kieran Palmer (right) who is the CEO of The Street University (TSU) which is a Youth Development Project created by the Ref Ted Noffs Foundation. The voluntary arm successfully originated in Kings Cross, Sydney. Providing various community-based services and interactive spaces for people aged 12 to 25 years of age. TSU started in Liverpool in Western Sydney in 2007.
Keiran highlighted how imperative it is to collect data and cater for community needs, so this concept can be expanded to Victoria. I do hope some of our members, can initiate the progress of this programme within Victoria too.
An interesting tool from the talk was the simple concept of Hooks > Brakes > Cranes > Trains to conceptualise the (somewhat) complex engagement of youth to provide them with some direction.

- This Thursday 1stOctober at 5pm, we are showing the Homeland story which is a fascinating TV production re: Indigenous people. Tickets are $10 and funds raised go towards supporting “End Trachoma”.
This is a timely film considering our current Kimberley project in WA, by providing members with a better understanding of the challenges of these remote homeland communities face daily, with or without Covid!
- Month of October will be assigned to End Polio walking programme and support Rotary foundation. My family and I are sitting down tomorrow to set our target for the month. Join me in this wonderful course and a help your fitness at the same time.
- Taverner’s raffle sales are now available. Please book using the upcoming flyer to be sent to your email, as our club will receive 50% of sales, directly ordered through this link.
- Taverner’s wine, still available with the bonus payment to our club for each case sold.
Next Tuesday the 6thof October
, will be Hat Day. Last year this was a wonderful fundraiser and I do not see why we can repeat this again. Let us aim to have over 100 people dressed in Beautiful hats, so start working on your invitations. If every member invites 2 or 3 guests, then we will reach our target. Each attendee will be encouraged to pay a ticket price and go in the draw to win a bottle of Moet Chandon bottle of Champagne. Along with best dressed (judged by Delphine Genin, left) will receive another bottle.
