President Doug keeps us informed on what is happening at Hawthorn Rotary

At today’s Zoom meeting we had an overview of the Rotary MUNA (Model United Nations Assembly) session presented by Cayden from the Auburn High School team.  The Auburn High team (Cayden, Sophie and Ruby) were representing Brazil at MUNA on 21-22 May and Cayden explained how it was informative learning about the country as well as the process to reach agreements and pass resolutions between the member countries.  The Auburn High team achieved a 2nd placing in the team competition which is a very impressive outcome.

Our guest speaker was Darren Park who works as a Forensic Investigator and he talked about some of the work he has done over the years within Australia and even in a French based company’s head office in Paris.

Darren outlined how important it is for businesses to have strong internal controls over financial transactions, regular stock counts and how company culture and whistleblower policies are important ways to deter staff from committing frauds.

Rochester Flood Victims Support Project

Bryan Griffiths, President of Rochester Rotary Club, has shared a photo with Matt Hawker, the owner of Mitre 10 Rochester, of the fire protection and sensor lights being delivered to the Rochester Recovery Centre. These are part of the support being provided by our Club and Sackville Grange.

Our next Club meeting is on Tuesday 1st August at Kooyong and the guest speaker will be Susan-Gaye Anderson, a TV presenter and one of the female pioneers on Melbourne television.

It seems a century ago when people stood in the street looking in a shop window at a box with flickering lights and a test pattern. This was the 1950s, this was television and they said it would never last! Susan-Gaye Anderson will take you down memory lane back to those early pioneer days of TV.

We hope you can join us for this fascinating presentation.

Rotary Hawthorn President, 2023-24
