This week President Andrew reports on last night’s Changeover Board meeting and Changeover Dinner, and continues his series on the application of the Four-way Test.
Changeover Dinner
Sixty-three members and guests attended the Club’s Changeover Dinner last night when I handed over the chains of office to President-elect Doug McLean.
Special guests included District 9800 Governor-elect, Ron Payne, PDG Peter Frueh representing AG Anne Frueh, the Mayor of Boroondara, Councillor Felicity Sinfield, and Councillor Di Gillies.
The formal parts of the evening consisted of the awards ceremony (see below), my report on Club activities in 2022/23 (see separate Bulletin item), and the evening culminated in the induction of Doug McLean as our President for 2023/24.
Recognition of members for notable service
The recognition of members for notable service is a highlight of all changeovers and last night the achievements of the following members were recognised.
The highest form of recognition the Club can give for service is Honorary Membership which is bestowed on those who have distinguished themselves by meritorious service in the furtherance of Rotary ideals, and those considered friends of Rotary for their support of Rotary’s cause.
Three members were elected Honorary Members for 2023/24.

The next level of recognition is Paul Harris Fellow recognition. This year Paul Harris Fellow recognition for outstanding service to the Club and the community was given to three members.
- Charlotte England, (right) for service as a Board member for six years during which she served as Community Service Director, President, Vice President, Club Service Director, and Rotary Foundation Director, as well as serving for two of these years as Assistant Governor, Bayside.
- Geoff Wright, for developing the Club’s youth service programs to a new level.
- Dorothy Gilmour, for her achievements as co-founder and director of Rotary SAFE Families and her contribution to other Club initiatives.
Peter England received a Certificate of Commendation for his work in the design and printing of publicity for Club events, and for providing IT advice.
Jane Drury (right) received the Bulletin Contributor’s Award for keeping us smiling with her inexhaustible supply of jokes and cartoons.

The business of the changeover meeting included approving a new membership application and the schedule of meetings and events for the next six months The schedule will be posted on the Club’s homepage shortly.
Enterprise Forum 27 June
The Vocational Service Committee presents the next in its series of Enterprise Forums by Zoom on Tuesday 27 June. The speaker will be Commodore (Ret) Peter Scott, who served in 10 submarines during his 34-year career in the Submarine Arm of the Royal Australian Navy. Commodore Scott will speak about life as a submariner.
It’s sure to be an informative talk so don’t miss it, and please invite interested family members and friends to register too.
I am looking forward to inducting Shakilah Wesonga at that meeting as our 50th Club member.
