Before we commenced the Forum today, I introduced myself as your President for the coming year.

Someone told me years ago that there are two types of Presidents. The first is the President who prefers to have a controlling interest in all Club matters and events and tends to keep things close to his/her chest.

The second type of President shares, relies on their Board and members to create a great working fellowship. This form of President also asks for support when needed and wants Members to all take a role in fellowship and Club Service for a healthy Club.

I am the latter type of President and I shall be asking you all at some time for some assistance as I truly want more members to be part of our Club activities.

My focus this year will be on fundraising,  fellowship and fun dosed with some surprises, and more events including our partners.

I hope this will sit well with you all. I shall be doing my utmost to continue the work of our highly respected Rotary Club of Hawthorn created 71 years ago.

I am emailing all non-attendees at today’s Forum with the Questions and I ask please provide your responses asap so I can collate them into a spreadsheet that will be discussed at next Board meeting and then emailed to all Rotary Hawthorn members.

One of our members conveyed to me after the meeting: “Those questions really made me think. It opened my eyes to the many variables and I truly valued being given a voice.”

Please if you haven’t booked for the Pharaoh’s Exhibition 23 July, please reconsider, bring a friend or partner. By inviting a friend along, there may be a chance that they may decide to join us and increase our membership. We need to look for every opportunity to introduce friends and colleagues to our Club.

See you all in 2 weeks’ time and my quote for the day: Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including yourself.”
