DONATIONS IN KIND PACKING DAY WITH OUR MEMBERS March 2026

Rotary Hawthorn team members John Perry, Katrina, Big Mac and Geoff Wright were at Donations in Kind sorting and boxing medical equipment bound for the Children’s Surgical Centre in Phnom Penh, Cambodia (CSC). The container will also include some hospital beds, bedside tables and medical equipment. Thanks to John for organising the team.

The project is being delivered by a collaboration of Clubs including Rotary Hawthorn  with the support of a Rotary Foundation District Grant & of course, this project could not be possible without Donations in Kind.

The following is a summary of the details relevant to the project  from PDG Bronwyn Stephens who is has just returned from Cambodia

'A partnership of District 9800, The Rotary Foundation, Donations in Kind and several Rotary Clubs, including Rotary Phnom Penn are preparing to ship a 40’ container to Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC) in Phnom Penh.   The shipping container is to be booked for 24th March 2026 to leave Melbourne. Ensuring CSC’s wish list is met and that correct governance occurs in terms of shipping customs requirements, is critical to avoid unnecessary fees.  As shipping to Cambodia is fraught and has not been attempted by Rotary for several years it was agreed that Bronwyn should make a preliminary visit ahead of the container"

Bronwyn spent several hours at CSC with every department of the hospital. Wish lists were clarified, added to and discussions with the staff fruitful.

DIK Manager Colleen d’Offay advises that with shipments overseas that  “preparation is the key and assistance would be most welcome on Thursday 19th March  when all the contents for the container will be bought to the front of the warehouse in the staging bay in preparation for loading of the container on Tuesday 24th.

As Rotary Hawthorn is an active partner in this project, it would be wonderful if we can get some members volunteering on Thursday 19th.
