Misinformation is incorrect or misleading information. It differs from disinformation, which is deliberately deceptive and propagated information. Rumors are information not attributed to any particular source, and so are unreliable and often unverified, but can turn out to be either true or false.Wikipedia
Unelected Bureaucrats, the Australian Communications and Media Authotrity, will now decide which information or “misinformation” is false, misleading or deceptive information that can cause harm.
Oh to be in England . . . .
Where a nightingale sang in Berkeley Square? But the English don’t say Berkeley Square, they say “Bark-ley Squaw”. The nightingale didn’t have the nerve to chirp up in Leicester Square, as that should be as hard to say as Worcestershire Sauce.
(BTW there’s a Kiwi who plays for the Canterbury Crusaders named Leicester Fainga'anuku, but for some reason he’s just called “Lester”)
I worked in England near Cholmondeley (pronounced Chum-ley) where the Hospital manager was Mr Blud, pronounced “blood”. Yes, really “bloood”. But they pronounce blood (the stuff in your veins) as “blud” instead of “blood”, so that’s fair exchange.
Another on the staff was Mr Sidebottom, who liked to be called “Siddie-bow-tome”. Everybody called him “Side-bum” behind his back, except for the nurses, who, being nurses, called him “The Walking Colostomy”.
P.S. GHOTI
If you pronounce “gh” as in “tough”, “o” as in “women”, and “ti” as in “motion”, how do you pronounce “ghoti”?
Gee, I miss PP Andrew’s “Lingua File” already.
@ DIK
It has been p
retty quiet at DIK lately, but we now have a few pallets of assorted medical stuff to sort out.
It’s pretty easy going: we just put dressings in one pile, bandages in another and so on, until we have a boxful. Refer anything odd to me. ;-)
Would anyone be able to help for an hour or two? I’d appreciate some company, on any Thursday morning. Call me on 0417 583 803
International, Zone and District Service Awards
You may have noticed that DG Amanda Wendt acknowledged awards for outstanding service that had been made during her year of office.
So congratulations to our own PDG Dennis Shore on receiving the Distinguished Service Award – one of Rotary International's highestdistinctions in service, which is applicable to anyone who has demonstrated exemplary service to the Rotary Foundation and has received the Citation for Meritorious Service at least four years beforehand.m
Rotary Hawthorn: Rotary S
afe Families received a D9800 “Together We Empower” Award, recognising empowering those who have big dreams to achieve great things. So congratulations to Dorothy Gilmour and her team.
The Salvo Hawks
Dylan Buchanan, Reclink Recreation Worker told us that the Salvo Hawks had over 25 participants volunteer at Reclink footy last Wednesday.
He sent a huge thank you to Rotary Hawthorn for providing pizzas and managing the scoreboard, along with the Salvation Army from the Eastern Bridge Program, who participated for the first time in a Reclink footy game.
He was delighted to have everyone there and getting involved.
So well done, Doug McLean, Geoff Wright, John Perry, Henry Drury and Jane.
Next match: - 12/07/23 - Wednesday, 12pm tip off at Victoria Road Reserve vs the Frankston Dolphins.
Your Feedback
We were hoping for some feedback from readers after President Andrew’s last Bulletin, and we were delighted to receive a record number of comments from readers. Yes, we received a total of two comments!
One was from a rea
der who was gobsmacked by poet Brian Bilston. This inspired The Jesters to get Brian to give the Youth Service some helpful advice. A job interview with a cat? Who’d ha’ thunk it?
But let’s try to keep a grip on reality: You may have noted that there is a spot at the foot of each article, where you can add a comment, or even tick the star to show you “like”. Over the past year, readers added a few comments: they are much appreciated.
Give us a little more feedback please: even some abuse would break the monotony.
The Science is Settled
Have you a pash for Ogden Nash?

Today’s Speaker
Our brand-new President Doug McLean certainly held out attention, with tales of his early years and some North American history and geography. As always, our club produces interesting speakers.
But within the audience were newly-weds Rashi Kapoor and Rajool Sharma, who are due to set off on honeymoon tomorrow. We wish them good health and happiness, and expect Rashi to return fully enthusiastic to take over the Youth Service Portfolio, as we head into a New Rotary year.
TTFN,
