What’s up? Just the usual complaints about the climate, a homeless marquee, and Cambodia.
Oh yes - you can throw in a little about the RI Convention and the Meaning of Life for good measure.
I Wish to Register a Complaint!
LONDON (AP) – Climate change protesters were dragged away by security guards at oil company Shell’s annual shareholder meeting in London on Tuesday after activists tried to storm the stage and caused major disruption at the event.
On Monday morning, radicals from the Just Stop Oil green activist collective blocked off the road leading to the Blackfriars Bridge in central London. Rather than acting to prohibit such actions, London police seemed content on allowing the disruption to go forward, standing with their backs to the protesters.
Meanwhile, in Melbourne: Around 100 Extinction Rebellion supporters marched down La Trobe St on Thursday morning, marching on Parliament Gardens, calling for the “strongest possible emergency action to avert the potential collapse of society”. Commuters were warned to expect delays.
That will surely help.
Worst of all!
Radical climate change activists from the far-left Just Stop Oil group disrupted the England rugby final by running onto the field at Twickenham on Saturday and throwing orange paint powder onto the pitch.
While the two were eventually hauled off the field by stewards — to the apparent joy of the crowd — the orange powder remained on the pitch as play resumed.
Marquee Needs a New Home
The Rotary Club of North Balwyn has a 6 metre x 9 metre marquee, which is no longer used. It was purchased around 2008 and has been used for many Rotary events, including the annual ‘Rotary River Ride’. The club is willing to donate the marquee to any club that is prepared to collect it from their storage facility in North Balwyn.
Details: 6m x 9m, steel tube frame, vinyl roof and side panels.
Rotary Hawthorn Hospital Medical Equipment for Cambodia
Isn’t it nice to see our names in the papers?
Katrina Flinn has had a nice article published in District 9800’s newsletter, “The Networker”:
The container of medical equipment an1d supplies organised by Rotary Hawthorn, was entirely funded by The Rotary Foundation via a District Grant and the World of Difference. Integral to the project was the support of Donations in Kind in Melbourne.

Cambodian Rotaractors
The young Cambodians who spoke at our club recently have certainly been busy since they arrived. District 9800’s Networker reports:
Melbourne has welcomed 5 Rotaractors from the Rotaract Club of Siem Reap, Cambodia, who are in Australia for the Rotary International Convention. Doeb, Lita, Phanich, Sokal and Tola have already done so much during their first week in Melbourne, including being guest speakers at a number of clubs in D9800, volunteering alongside RC Balwyn members at the Camberwell Sunday Market and hosting a community event.
Pamela Crockett spotted them in the House of Friendship, and her photo is a really happy one. (Better than the one in "Networker")
Rotary International Convention
How could you miss it?
There have been so many interesting speakers so far: I attended a Rotary Foundation Event to hear PRIP Ian Riseley speak. I found CNN Anchor Woman Amanda Drury (Jane and Henry’s little girl) was the MC.
Amanda led the discussion with Foundation Trustees Holger Knack, Bharat Pandya, Hendreen Dean Rohrs and Greg Todd.
Some of the stories the speakers related were inspiring: Gregory Rockson had been brought up in abject poverty by an abandoned mother, to become head of a Pharmaceutical Company providing drug treatment to the poor in Africa, and Emmanuel Kotongole from similar poverty, also providing treatment for malaria and AIDS.
Thanks to all who sent us photos and comments.
Much more is happening . . .
