Our second quilt show was very successful by just about any standards. We had more quilts than we could handle, and many more people through the door than in 2010. The Cocktail Party was well attended, and provided exquisite food and wine. The financial outcome will add significantly to our club's charitable contributions in 2011-12.

This year we introduced a cafe; this was very successful, and provided a nice touch for people to be able to socialise after viewing the quilts.  The barbecue outside Hawthorn Town Hall also raised significant funds and provided excellent practice for our continuing Bunnings’ barbeques.  There were excellent prizes for the raffle due to generous donations from Rotarians.  The 2011 initiative of arranging visits on Friday from aged care facilities was a great enhancement, not only generating added visitor numbers, but also an outing and a special interest for many elderly residents in Boroondara.  We also catered for the full age spectrum, youth, thanks to the Girl Guides who provided a child-minding facility, in turn allowing parents to enjoy the exhibition "unencumbered".  The club event Committee met frequently since January, and the careful planning contributed significantly to the success of the venture (although as President Geoff did point out, the committee task of testing suitable wines for the cocktail party was an onerous duty!).  A large event like this always has room for improvement.  In future, more will be publicised about the cocktail party as a fund-raiser, and there was a substantial effort by over 40 Rotarians and 20 or more of their partners required.  However, it is also very clear that other benefits including club social interaction and fellowship and a great sense of achievement that went towards making this a very worthwhile event.
