Although we had no meeting this week, President Andrew has certainly been busy on our behalf, attending The Rotary District 9800 Changeover and other events.
He also gives us a summary of upcoming projects.

District Changeover
Pam and I attended the District Changeover lunch on Sunday 10 July together with Dennis and Lynda Shore and Tilak Dissanayake.  Also seated at our table were the AG Stonnington, Anthea Rutter, and the President of Balwyn Rotary, Anne Frueh and Peter Frueh.

The lunch was a celebration not only of achievements in the past year, but also an opportunity to get together and enjoy the company of other Rotarians after a year in which opportunities for face-face contact were all too few.

Before inducting incoming DG Dale Hoy, PDG Philip Archer recognised some notable Rotarians and corporate partners. Details are on the Club’s website.

DG Dale Hoy spoke of his vision for the year and the focus on service based on this year's theme of ‘Serve to Change Lives’.

Hawthorn Community Chest
Last week I met with Andrew Tait, President of Hawthorn Community Chest, to discuss how our organisations might work more closely together.  We talked about the possibility of collaborating on fundraising and partnering in a new community project.  Opportunities for working together will be further explored in conjunction with our Fundraising and Community Service directors.

Rotary Glenferrie Changeover
Tilak and I will represent the Club at Rotary Glenferrie’s postponed Changeover dinner at Kooyong on 13 July.  Because Dr Mark Ellis will be embarking on his second year as President, it will be more a transition than a changeover.

Mock interviews at Auburn High School 4 August
Thanks to all of you who have volunteered to be interviewers at Auburn High School on August 4. The mock interviews are the culmination of a program developed by the school to give students experience and confidence in applying for jobs and participating in job interviews.  Our contribution is very much appreciated by the school.
As a result of enrolments at the school being at record levels we will be interviewing a record number of around 110 Year 9 students. At this stage we have enough volunteer interviewers but if you are not already interviewing, and you are available between 8.45am to 11.45 am on 4 August, please let Geoff know, and he’ll put you on the emergency list in the event one of the rostered interviewers is unable to attend.

Salvo Hawks home game 4 August
Also on 4 August the Salvo Hawks will be playing on their home ground Victoria Road Reserve in East Hawthorn.  If you are not involved in the Mock interviews and are free from 12:30 pm and 2:00 pm, I encourage you attend the match to support the Hawks and give David McNamara a helping hand with serving lunch.  Please contact David McNamara for more details.

Strategic planning update
A report on responses to the ‘Back to Basics’ strategic planning survey has been drafted and will be sent to members as soon as the report has been considered and endorsed by the Strategic Development Committee and Board.
The next stage of the planning process will be at Avenue of Service level.  Each Avenue of Service Committee will meet to discuss the survey results and which ideas from the survey should be incorporated in the Avenue of Service plans for 2021/22 and beyond.
A distillation of each committee’s service goals and priorities will then be incorporated in a draft Strategic Plan for 2021-2024.
In the final planning stage, Club members will be asked to provide feedback on the draft plan before it is finalised and approved by the Board.

Next Club meeting 20 July 2021
I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at next week’s meeting to hear Maria Berry speak about the work of the Hush Foundation.

Quote of the Week
This week’s quote comes from Martin Luther King Jr.
We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope.
