PDG Dennis Shore introduced Noel McInness as today’s speaker, reminding us that Noel had organised three Rotary District Conferences for Hawthorn Rotary (and a couple on behalf of other Rotary Clubs) He also had great fun Running D9800 PETs with John Meehan in 1999, 2000 and 2002. He was a Rotary Volunteer for 10 days in East Timor in 2007 advising the new Minister for Infrastructure.
Noel amazed us with Lorraine’s and his own involvement in music and martial arts, and how he applied what he has learned to his life.
He left us with some thoughts on self-defence and a challenge.
Friday morning, with a special invitation from SBS Somalia Producer Hassan Jama, Dorothy along with Peter Berg and Ahmed Tohow (both Rotary Melbourne), were given the opportunity to talk about Rotary SAFE Families Inclusive Communities Initiative for the Somalian program on SBS.

Kwi-Young Song of Korea had been a member of Rotary for 23 years, but it wasn’t until she attended the 2023 Rotary International Convention in Melbourne, Australia, that she realized the true internationality of the organization.
Your Editor is exhausted after Noel McInness' dissertation. It's not often we have an erudite speaker who not only knows who Willie The Lion Smith was, but can explain what Lester Young meant when he lowered his sax and asked for "a bit more tickety-boom!"
Otherwise, we can now look forward to another visit to The Australian Jazz Museum, and twist an arm or two to get a volunteer for the Rotary Fair Trade and Gift Shop.
