NEXT WEEK

Tuesday, 24 September (Zoom)

Graeme Jacobs who played in Melbourne’s 1964 Premiership  side and conducted relay for life at Hawthorn. 80-year-old Graeme Jacobs and his wife Gill have taken part in Relay for Life for the last 19 years to honour the memory of his daughter Tiffany who passed away from oesophageal cancer in May 2005.
“By joining Relay for Life, it was our chance to give something back to Cancer Council Victoria in the hope that other families don’t have to go through what our daughter went through.”
When they helped create Relay for Life in Hawthorn 19 years ago, they pledged to themselves that they would endeavour to raise a million dollars for cancer research in her memory.

Did you know that as of last week, we had 69 registrations for this very special event and just 8 Rotary Hawthorn members have booked! Come on members, we have 61 guests booked and only 8 members.
We have 240 seats available and this year, we had hoped for members to “step up” and register with friends and family and anyone who loves tennis and would very much appreciate hearing our Guest Speaker Craig Tiley. His presentation will be fascinating as we hear about the future of Tennis in Australia.
Remember this is our biggest fundraising event and your chance to help raise funds by inviting your friends. Let’s show Rotary that Hawthorn makes good things happen with a packed lunch event. Register now for yourself and guests and showcase Rotary Hawthorn. (Ian Add flyer please)

FINAL REPORT on SALVO HAWKS FOR 2024

It was a lovely Sunny Day without the forecast rain, in fact was 22C -Wednesday 11 September 2024 that greeted both teams at the VFL Kinetic Stadium (Frankston). The ground was in excellent condition. Free Sausage Sizzle and Cakes supplied to all. Unfortunately, the Cardina Tigers playing good football went on to win convincingly.
Football was the winner.

Final Scores:
Salvo Hawks 6.3-(39)
Cardina Tigers 18.12-(120)

Many Thanks to Hawthorn Rotarian David McNamara who attended. That was the final game till 2025.

HAWKERS WALKERS  Charlotte England

It is very easy to join 'Our Team'—all you have to do is click the link. I put $3,000 as our fundraising aim, as we usually get pretty close to, if not exceed, this goal. Over the past five years, Hawthorn Rotary has been in the top three or four Clubs for this important initiative. It is also a great way of getting fit and ready for the Christmas festivities!!!!!!

DIK VIC POLICE LEGACY TRIVIAL PURSUIT NIGHT
Katrina Flinn

I am co-leading a tour to Cambodia with Victoria Police Legacy and the participants are organising a large trivia night at Richmond Town hall on Saturday 5th October as a fundraiser for their project work. The tour is a program of Rotary’s World of Difference of which Rotary Hawthorn is a member. It should be a fun night and you might like to organise a table of 10 trivial pursuit “nuts” or book with me.
Glen Ridge is going to MC.  It should be a fun night, would you like to go? Contact Katrina Flinnkatrinaflinn@gmail.com
