PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Over the past week, I’ve found myself coming back to our Strategic Plan; not in a formal sense, but as a way of taking stock.

At the last Board meeting, we agreed to build this in more deliberately, adopting a practice of reviewing the Strategic Plan twice a year—once to assess how we are tracking, and again to consider what might need to change or want to prioritise as the club moves forward. A plan should guide us, but it also needs to remain a living document.

The Strategic Plan is useful because it sets out the full breadth of what we understand a Rotary club to be. It goes well beyond our weekly meetings and social events and speaks to our work across community, international, youth, and Foundation activities, with Peace as the common thread.

PROJECT UPDATES

Katrina Flynn alerted Editor to a delightful email of appreciation to Rotary Hawthorn for our welcome when Emily Wilkinson and Sokly Tep visited us a few weeks ago.

Thank you Katrina for sharing this as it is a reminder to us all, that being a Rotarian can make a huge difference to those who do not have the opportunities we have here in Australia.

HELP!

Do you know how much time and effort is applied every weekend without fail in the creation of your Bulletin?  Yes, I am complaining. Without 3 or 4 of our members who provide regular news items, your editor is left searching social media for news items, which she needs to rewrite, get approval for photo publication and layout in a format that our wonderful Vincent does his magic in loading into ClubRunner every weekend without fail!

Fairs fair members. Since no one has accepted this important role in our Club’s volunteering, at least please help your editor by providing some news items, photos of what you are doing, visiting, enjoying. Thank you!

DID YOU KNOW

In PP Andrew Crockett’s year, 2021-22: Rotary 100 Year Yarra Bank Reserve Playground Centenary Project came to fruition.

After a collaboration over two years between the Rotary Clubs of Glenferrie, Camberwell, Canterbury, and Hawthorn, the Rotary Foundation, and the City of Boroondara, the playground was officially opened on 21 November 2021. Denbigh Richards was our representative on the project committee.

In June 2022, the project was awarded District Recognition as a successful community project that involved collaboration between partner clubs and the local council, engaged Rotarians and members of the community, was well implemented, and publicised and left a legacy of strengthened relationships.
