Changeover is four weeks away, which feels close. But the Rotary year itself still has nine weeks to run. As President’s it’s an odd phase. It is too early to ease up, but too late to start a new substantial project for this Rotary year.
On the other hand, Dorothy was in Bendigo this weekend with sixty other Presidents-Elect preparing for the year ahead. I am looking towards the end of this year; she is preparing for the beginning of the next. It is part of the familiar rhythm of Rotary clubs.
Furthermore, the Club is hardly winding down. If anything, this period is very active. The Bunnings BBQ, Changeover Dinner, Business Breakfast and Lift the Lid lunch are in preparation, some well advanced and others in the early phases. This work will both ensure momentum isn’t lost, and the club will be well placed for the remainder of the calendar year.
Crime With a Twist Of History, At Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club
Laraine sets her Reggie da Costa Mysteries in the Melbourne of the early twentieth century, in the aftermath of the Great War and during the heady days of the 1920s, when gangs, sly-grog and gambling dens inhabited the back streets of Melbourne.
In her talk, Laraine will discuss how she combined her love of crime fiction and history to depict historically accurate and lively settings for her Reggie da Costa Mysteries.

UPDATE ON TOWARDS RESPECTFUL RELATIONSHIPS
Min, Sean Meltzer OAM (film producer) and Dorothy headed off to the school room on Friday to commence Session 1 of 8 sessions at the Melbourne Montessori School, Caulfield.
What a terrific group of Year 10 students from all walks of life welcomed us and together we worked on:
· What is a relationship?
· What are the behaviours in a healthy/non-healthy relationship?
· Students then created in small groups, a visual of how to record these behaviours using their phones.
“It was a very pleasant and sunny Melbourne Day that greeted all players with the Temperature reaching 22C, Wednesday 29 April 2026 for the Salvo Hawks / Windana V’s Melton Lions for Round 2 at Victoria Road Reserve Park, Victoria Road, Hawthorn East.
Two top quality young Field Umpires with senior experience controlled the game giving each player a chance to perform to their skill level with particular importance with involving the not so skilled and the female players.

DID YOU KNOW
In chartering Rotary Hawthorn in 1953, the question was: “How do you pick leaders from community to charter a new Rotary Club?” DG Horace Bedggood was given the task of forming a new club. He interviewed a few potential leaders and then, in company with one of them, duly visited other potential members one by one until he had the required number to apply for charter.
It was told that our charter members included ‘racehorses’ and ‘Clydesdales’, both being vital in a club that would be confronted with short-burst projects and those involving long, heavy, and hard hauls!
We duly became the tenth metropolitan club in what was then called District 28.
