The Week Ahead

 20 May 2025

Greetings! Last week we enjoyed our social lunch at the Auburn Hotel. Eighteen members and partners joined us, and thanks go to Vincent for organising our rowdy bunch.

Maybe a different venue in July?

Well done to David McNamara, Vincent Chen, Doug McLean and Noel Halford for their management of the Salvo Hawks game last week. If you get a chance to go to a Salvo Hawks game, don’t miss this opportunity. The highlight for me was the devouring of the pizzas we supply for each home game. Not only the players enjoy the pizzas, but many of the team’s supporters gather around the tables for banter and free food.

‘I had a call from Anne Scott on Sunday to tell me of the money raised by Anne and Margot Boyle (our first recipient of our Service To Seniors’ Award). Together they gathered 50 residents from Sackville Grange (there are 120 residents) and described the Hope in a Suitcase initiative and via various means raised $7,000 in a couple of hours!!!’

We seriously need to register and invite our friends to our Changeover Dinner on Tuesday 10 June.

This dinner not only welcomes Ian Bentley as President but is a time when we award members for their contribution to our projects and events. It is a ‘not to be missed’ dinner with exciting entertainment, good cheer and fellowship.

DV Safe Phones – Your old phone could save a life!

For domestic violence (DV) victims, access to a safe phone can mean the difference between life and death.

Perpetrators often use phones to control and monitor their victims, leaving them isolated and without a secure way to keep in contact with friends and family or seek help.

You can play a vital role in ensuring every call for help is heard.
Bring your old phone to a lunch meeting and Jane Bentley and Dorothy Gilmour will ensure it is used to keep a victim ‘safer’.

Our Collection boxes will be placed in Boroondara Council high traffic areas.
