The Week Ahead

11 February 2025

What a fantastic first meeting for 2025! Thank you to all who attended including 10 visitors and a possible new member!  Thank you Susie Anderson for bringing Pete Smith OAM as Guest Speaker and your table of friends. We need more members to show this initiative and support of our meetings.
Pete was so enjoyable and I loved the video flashbacks to early television. His talk jogged our memories of “watching” the radio before television was created.
It has been a particularly action-packed time for your President. Rotary SAFE Families supported by our Rotary Hawthorn, is going global. Our Board has agreed and we will give the finer details to all members in the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, we are launching Rotary SAFE Families at a global Mega-Meeting which includes invitations to 30 plus countries.
I am delighted and honoured to have three inspirational Rotarians agree to become our Patrons. Gordon McInally, Immed. RI Past President; Pat Merryweather-Arges, Immed. RI Vice President; Grace Van Zyl (South Africa), Chair Rotary Action Group for Peace.  We shall provide the details of how you can come on board this exciting journey by helping Rotary Hawthorn with the needs of going global.
We look forward to our Guest Speaker at Kooyong on 18 February, when Nello Ragusa explains how his Hopes and Dreams organisation is helping children and families living  underprivileged lives.
A question to you: “Why are members not wanting to win a wonderful prize each month by entering the “Who Am I?” Do you want me to give up or continue with this quiz?  It is so simple to send David Pisterman your answer and to get to know things about members you possibly didn’t know.
My quote for the week:  “I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me!”  Noel Coward

NEXT MEETING – 18 February at Kooyong

Nello Ragusa was deeply moved with compassion after watching video footage of how in other parts of the world many children and families were living an underprivileged life.

Nello felt called to do something and to really make a difference to these precious lives and founded Hopes and Dreams in 2008.
Knowing he couldn’t take this on by himself he established key partnerships with like-minded people both in Australia and throughout Africa and Asia. Nello is CEO of “Hope and Dreams”.  Photo taken from website: “Hopes and Dreams”
