There is no president's post this week and next while President Doug is overseas.
Thank you to those members who have contributed to this week's Bulletin. Please send articles about club news, projects, events, and club members' activities to keep us all updated.
Apologies for my oversight last week. In his president's post, Doug mentioned that there would be a link to an article sent to us by Dr Billy Lugg that addressed the very issues he had been talking to us about in his talk two weeks ago. The paper is entitled “Protective factors for psychosocial outcomes following cumulative childhood adversity: systematic review”. Billy thought this was a very good overview of one of the themes from his presentation and the link with the work Rotary does in the mental health area. A copy is available in this week's Bulletin.

As the philanthropic arm of Rotary International, the Rotary Foundation is dedicated to advancing global understanding, goodwill, and peace through health, education, and poverty alleviation initiatives. The Foundation is funded by donations from Rotarians and other supporters and has a strong commitment to sustainability and long-term impact. Throughout its history, the Foundation has raised over 4 billion dollars and has given more than 3 billion dollars to programs including the successful PolioPlus campaign, supporting education through the Rotary Peace Centers, and funding community development projects.
The purpose of the Paul Harris Society is to honour and thank individuals for their generous, ongoing support of The Rotary Foundation.
The Paul Harris Society recognises Rotary members and friends of The Rotary Foundation who elect to contribute $1,000 or more each year to the Annual Fund, PolioPlus Fund, or approved global grants.
Rotary districts often honour new members of the Paul Harris Society by presenting them with a certificate and chevron at a district or club event.
“I participate in the Paul Harris Society because I care. These contributions demonstrate our commitment to serve others.”
Newer club members may not know that among Anne Scott's many interests is the Olave Baden Powel Society, which is the fundraising arm of the WAGGS (The World Association for Guides and Girl Scouts).
Anne has shared some photos (below) and comments following her attendance at the Olave Baden Powell Society Conference held in Malaysia last month.
Beautiful sunny day, there we were the stalwarts of “bloodletting” from Rotary Hawthorn. Unfortunately, four members had to drop out due to family or health issues but we courageously continued. Lunch, juice more water on top of the litres we all had consumed the day before and Sunday morning so that our veins would graciously, painlessly, allow the blood to flow.
Lunch was a chicken salad and not a sandwich because do you know what a vampire’s favourite sandwich might be? …. A blood-wich.
Dr Billy Lugg has shared this recently published online paper from the British Journal of Psychiatry as a follow-up to his recent talk to the club. Click the banner above to read the article in full.
A jester, court jester, fool or joker was a member of the household of a nobleman or a monarch employed to entertain guests during royal court. Jesters were also traveling performers who entertained common folk at fairs and town markets, and the discipline continues into the modern day, where jesters perform at historical-themed events.
