The Week Ahead

15 July 2025

Attending the Rotary International Convention in Calgary was an inspiring reminder of the strength and diversity of Rotary’s global impact. Whether gathering in the Saddledome, walking between sessions through the impressive convention centre, or browsing the House of Friendship, the vibrancy of Rotary’s internationalism was palpable.

Set against the famous Calgary Stampede, the Convention offered a lively taste of Alberta’s rodeo culture. White cowboy hats were a must-have accessory. It was a joyful blend of Rotary spirit and local flair. YAHOO! There was also a sobering reminder of the ongoing reconciliation process with the First Nations people, presented movingly through a musical, dance, and dramatic performance by local Indigenous young people, accompanied by the Calgary Symphony Orchestra playing the music of Peter Gabriel. PROJECT UPDATES

Packing at D.I.K

What a hit our boys made at our first official DIK packing day last Thursday. Editor picked up an email from DIK’s Colleen d’Offay reading: “Thank you, thank you! We so much appreciated your contribution today. The team was so grateful and all asked if you were coming back. Cheers and see you in a month (feel free to come whenever you are able also)”

Members, please contact John Perry, johnperry040@gmail.com and be part of the ongoing roster for DIK packing days throughout the year. This is a new project for our Community Service and we need your assistance once or twice a year.

DV Safe Phones – Your old phone could save a life!

Please remember to bring your old phone/s to our next meeting at Kooyong for collection.

Donation of new older style phones

Rotary SAFE Families was rapt to receive a box containing 16 new phones via Rotary Melbourne from an anonymous donation.  We are donating these phones to Dr Akinsola Akinbiyi, psychiatrist at Wallace Avenue Specialist Suites, Point Cook.

At our Rotary Hawthorn Changeover, Jane Bentley was asked by Akinsola if we could supply some phones to be given to his psychiatric patients. It seems that many patients do not have a phone which creates great difficulty in checking on their medications and appointments.

Photo shows our PP Dorothy with Akinsola and his wife Abiola Akinbiyi, CEO Changepreneurs who delivered our International Women’s Day presentation in March at Kooyong. Both are members of Rotary Wyndham Harbour.
