March 25

Greetings members and friends of Rotary Hawthorn.

Ian, our PE, and I have been discussing the hive of activity in our club and in Rotary. From International, Youth and Community Service, to the cluster clubs around us. There is much happening and we thank members involved in these areas.

We also appreciate the time and energy that our Club Service Director and team including Jill Weeks and Mark Eldredge spend each week in creating wonderful meetings at Kooyong.

It has been lovely to have guests each week and to induct Hugh Waltho into Rotary Hawthorn.  Andrew Crockett, our Membership Director has whispered that there could be another couple of new members over the next months. So it is a huge thank you to you all from our wonderful 'desk service', to members and our Directors who are all doing their best to ensure we have a healthy, friendly club.

I Hope to see you and guests at our next Kooyong meeting when our Mayor of Boroondara will be introduced, and the Chief Operating Officer of COTA (Council On The Ageing Vic.) Rochna Banerjee will award our nominee for our second Service to Senior’s Award. I must remember to collect the award from the engraver!!!

NEXT WEEK'S MEETING

SERVICE TO SENIORS AWARD

April 1 is the special event at Kooyong, when Coralie White will be awarded our second Annual Service to Seniors Award by Rochna Banerjee, Chief

Operating Officer at COTA.

Rochna is an experienced commercially astute executive with over 20 years of experience leading teams in non-profit and for-profit organisations in Australia, India, Pacific and Southeast Asia.

It will be good to hear from our special guest, Sophie Torney, Mayor of Boroondara, who will be joining us too.

Please, let’s make a big effort and not only attend but invite a friend!  (Our Guest Speaker was to be Ben Rogers but he is now on Paternity Leave.)

EDUCATION CHANCES BEQUEST SOCIETY LUNCH

Last week, Rotary Hawthorn was well represented at the Education CHANCES Bequest Society Launch.

President Dorothy met up with Noel Halford, Denbigh Richards and our Group Leader Michael Stilwell.

In Picture L-R: Edda Williams, DG and David Cooke, Camcare.

All were warmly welcomed by Sue Felton, Bequest Director CHANCES.

It was quite emotional when a young person now studying at Melbourne University Trinity College, spoke of how CHANCES had helped via scholarships so she had the chance to her live her dream of studying at University.
