The Rotary Year may be nearing its end, but President Charlotte still has lots of energy and creative ideas.

CHANCES

Boroondara Cares Education CHANCES Program reached its 10th anniversary in 2017 and has an outstanding success record at keeping children in school through secondary and tertiary education.

Boroondara Cares has awarded over 1000 scholarships, and 99% of our recipients have completed a degree or vocational qualification.

Today we provide more than 100 scholarships each year to students.

Special General Meeting

Twenty-seven members attended a Special General Meeting held by Zoom on 23rd June.

PDG Dennis Shore described how the Club’s Constitution and By-Laws are required to be regularly reviewed and updated to comply with the requirements of Rotary International and Consumer Affairs Victoria.

Rotary’s Centenary is a time of celebration! It Is a time to reflect on our past, and take pride in all that has been achieved. It is a time we play our part in the history of Rotary.

Our centenary is also the time to lay the foundations for our future, as we still have much to do. The key project in our centenary year will focus on stopping the one in 16 children who die in 9 Pacific nations before the age of five.

JEST FOR A LAUGH

Laughter just might be the most contagious of all emotional experiences. Although laughter is one of the distinguishing features of human beings, little is known about the mechanisms behind it. Laughter is not limited to communicating mirth. It can be triggered by embarrassment and other social discomforts.

Laughter may have evolved to facilitate bonding across large groups of people. In primates, the grooming process releases chemicals that help build social bonds; humans eventually came to live in groups that were larger than the grooming process allowed. Laughter, as well as speech, enables us to bond quickly and easily with a large community.

This week we feature some irony, sent to us by an anonymous donor in the House of Drury.
