DIK Open Day Sat 24 Feb

Donations In Kind  – Open Day 2018 – join us to formally open Shed 39

This weekend Saturday 24th February is the date set for this year’s OPEN DAY at Donations in Kind Store at 400 Somerville Road, West Footscray.

As everyone is aware we have moved from Shed 40 to Shed 39 and given lots of work by many people, the store is looking terrific.

The Open Day is a great opportunity to showcase the store but more importantly show you the many opportunities for you to use the store to assist your Community and International projects. We will take the opportunity to use the day as the “Official Opening” for the new location and will have the ribbon cutting ceremony at 1.00pm.

The day will run from 10.00am to 3.00 pm with tea and coffee throughout the day and a traditional sausage sizzle for lunch.

The Open Day gives every Rotarian the chance to see the store – many for the first time and particularly for new Rotarians to see some easy “hands on” opportunities.

The move gave us the opportunity for a big “spring clean” and enabled us to put in place a better layout for the store. It also gave us the opportunity to provide better facilities for our volunteers and for Clubs to use the store for their meetings.

It was not all easy as we had a big surprise when we were advised that some of our existing racking could not be reinstalled as it was no longer of the “approved” type. Consequently we had to purchase quite a few new “approved” uprights so we could provide at least the same volume of racking capacity.

This unforeseen expense has given our available funds a significant “hit” so we are using the Open Day as an opportunity to ask for your financial assistance.

You can help us by “buying” a full bay of racking for $1,500 or a double pallet space for $150. Our objective is to replenish the coffers with the $10,000 that this additional racking cost us.

We would love to close the day with the knowledge that we had achieved this.

So mark the date in your calendar and join us at Shed 39 on Saturday 24th February.

Please RSVP for catering purposes to dik.vic.rotary@gmail.com  Laurie Fisher 0428 550 574

Victoria Racing....Amanda Elliott

It was a pleasure to have the Mrs Amanda Elliott as our guest speaker today

Amanda rewrote the history books when she assumed office as the first female chairman of the VRC in February 2017

And what a busy time to assume office with the new grandstand under construction.    Amanda reported that the stand is due to be completed early August.  Its running on time and on budget

What a heritage belongs to Flemington Racecourse, from the time of the first Melbourne Cup in 1861, won of course by Archer.  And its not just famous names of the equine champions, but Flemington reflects our history as described in the photos and the stories of the Melbourne Cup and the spring carnival, whether if be in the depressions of 1930 ( the spirits of the people being lifted by the great feats of Phar Lap) or the 1880s and of course two world wars.

But now the Melbourne Cup is truly a great international event of racing, fashion, hospitality and tourism

After hearing Amanda’s address today we can be confident that not only will the traditions be preserved but that the VRC and Flemington will stay ahead of the world as a racing club and in providing services and facilities at the cutting edge

Rotary International Womens Day Breakfast

The Women in Rotary Annual International Women's day breakfast is on again this year on Wednesday 7th March at Crown Palladium.

Many of you have attended the Women in Rotary, International Women's Day Breakfast before and know what a fabulous event that it is.

For those that have not been. The event is for both men and women . For those male Rotarians with daughters, why not consider attending with your daughter!

You can always book your own table of friends/colleagues or customers (if you are in business).   Chris Hanson is coordinating bookings for club attendees.  We  have already nominated Rotary Hawthorn for a table

Make-ups and Apologies

Lawrence Reddaway always seeks to finalize numbers by Sunday 10pm by collating  responses to attendance at the next meeting.   So please try the electronic response (or phone) or even carrier pidgeon!    Forewarn of any guests at the same time.   This minimizes catering costs.

Geoff Wright collates the attendance information.  He needs to know of  "make up " events.
