Vocational Service encourages Rotarians to serve others through their vocations and to practice high ethical standards.

Rotarians are governed by the Four Way Test:
Of the things we think, do and say:
  1. Is it the TRUTH
  2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
  4. Is it BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
Visiting local businesses to learn about industry in our community increases our knowledge and helps to build our network.  Projects around learning a trade and awards for pride in workmanship are just some of the programs in which Rotarians promote high ethical conduct in business and professions.
Our most outstanding award was the annual Ron Carr Award for Business Innovation.  Developed by the Rotary Club of Hawthorn and run in conjunction with Boroondara Council the Ron Carr awards attracted applications from a wide diverse range of businesses.

Our vocational visits have proved popular with our members and usually include some lively fellowship.  In the last few years we have visited diverse organisations such as:
  • VicRoads Traffic Control Centre
  • Stylemaster Body Repairs
  • The Carlton Brewery
  • The Australian Mint
  • Swinburne University
  • Paspaley Pearls
  • Melbourne Cricket Ground and Museum
Rotary Club of Hawthorn has developed a strong partnership with Swinburne University, coordinating the Student Volunteer Program and mentoring graduate students in their Grant and Scholarship applications.  This year we are actively working with Swinburne University exploring opportunities to provide Rotary Global scholarships for students.

In conjunction with several other local Rotary Clubs, we are involved in two new mentoring initiatives, namely the Young Entrepreneurs Mentoring Program, and Life After Stroke Mentoring.  We are also part of the highly regarded Police Mentoring Program now being run state-wide.
